Wild game, fish, and wild berries all form a staple of traditional Lappish cuisine. Kuusamo's  vast forests and numerous lakes guarantee the freshness of ingrendients. This combined with the simple methods of cooking emphasizing the ingredients own natural flavour make some of the most delicious courses Finland has to offer. Traditional Kuusamo dishes include sauteéd reindeer, served usually with mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam,  and fish such as trout, arctic char and salmon. They are usually steaked or smoked, or used to make a creamy fish soup. Lingonberries and cloudberries are a typical Lappish dessert, often served with traditional Finnish bread cheese, a form of fried cheese made of cow milk.
